Check Your Housing Contract

We offer appointments for contract checking to students of our federation members.

A housing contract may be the first major legal document that you ever sign and it is important that you fully understand what you are getting into. Sometimes contracts contain clauses that are potentially unfair or unenforceable. Even if you are an experienced renter, we advise that you get the contract checked to make sure you are not unintentionally agreeing to something you shouldn't be.

During a contract checking appointment, a Housing Advisor will discuss and clarify the terms of the contract with you and discuss potential problems that have been identified. We can offer advice on negotiating with your landlord or letting agent. We'll also give you an overview of the rights and obligations of both landlords and tenants.

We publish a Contract Checking Guide with some useful information and tips on what to look out for in a contract. Whilst it is not a substitute for a contract checking appointment with an advisor, we hope it will still be useful to you in understanding your rights.
