Who is this site for?
This site mainly covers the services available through the Private Housing Unit. If your enquiry relates to the Intercollegiate Halls of Residence, you should use the Halls website for most enquiries
The Private Housing Unit is funded by the Colleges of the federal University to provide a range of services to their students who are considering living, or live, in private rented housing. The University of the Arts London, Ravensbourne College and Royal College of Arts also buy into the service.
What is the University of London?
Founded by Royal Charter in 1836, the University of London is one of the oldest and largest universities in the UK and is a federation of over 40 institutions of varying size and academic profile. Some are large multi-faculty Colleges and others are small specialist Institutes. The University houses aprroximately 30% of its full time students in University Halls of Residence. Approximately 42% of the student population is accommodated in the private sector. It is believed that the remaining numbers stay at home or acquire their own properties. The figures above will give you some idea of the shortage of University owned accommodation and therefore how important and helpful it is to students when landlords offer their accommodation to the University.
Equal Opportunities
The University's Statute 3 requires that the University shall not discriminate against any person on the grounds of colour, race, nationality, ethnic or national origin, religion, politics or sex. The University promulgates an Equal Opportunities Policy incorporating these and other appropriate provisions in relation to a number of matters including disability, age, and sexual preferences within the law.
